Second Line in the Sky is a new temporary memorial and lighting installation spanning the 100–300 blocks of Bourbon Street, created to honor the victims of the January 1, 2025 Bourbon Street attack. Featuring 822 prayer flags suspended across twenty-one buildings, it forms a glowing canopy that encourages visitors to pause, look up, and reflect.

Designed to complement New Orleans’ holiday season, the installation incorporates illuminated trumpets, umbrellas, mesh “music” lighting, and handkerchief motifs inspired by the Second Line tradition — celebrating the resilience, creativity, and enduring spirit of New Orleans.

Conceived by Katy Casbarian of Arnaud’s Restaurant and brought to life by the woman-owned Studio West team, the project reflects the collaboration and artistry that define our community.

A major shoutout to the partners and sponsors who helped make this memorial possible, including Allstar Electric, New Orleans & Company, the Louisiana Restaurant Association, the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the French Quarter Management District, and many others.

A public lighting ceremony will take place December 1, 2025 at 5 p.m. at Bourbon and Bienville Streets, and the installation will remain on view through January 18, 2026.

Second Line in the Sky is a tribute to those we lost — and a reminder of the light that continues to shine over New Orleans.
