LRA Celebrates 80 Years and Announces 2026 Volunteer Leadership
Jan 6, 2026
The Louisiana Restaurant Association (LRA) proudly celebrates its 80th Anniversary in 2026, marking eight decades of advocacy, education, and leadership on behalf of Louisiana’s vibrant hospitality industry. As the Association looks ahead to the next chapter of service, the LRA announced its 2026 Volunteer Leadership, led by Octavio Mantilla, Co-Founder and Owner of BRG Hospitality, who will serve as Chair.
Born in Nicaragua and raised in New Orleans, Mantilla began his career in the restaurant industry at just 16 years old, gaining hands-on experience at every level of operations. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University and later an MBA from the University of New Orleans. His early career included pivotal roles opening Harrah’s Casino & Hotel in New Orleans and serving as Director of Food Operations for Harrah’s in St. Louis, followed by leading the opening of fine dining restaurants nationwide for the brand.
In 2003, Mantilla returned home to New Orleans to open The Besh Steakhouse at Harrah’s Casino. Shortly thereafter, he co-founded BRG Hospitality, helping grow one of the region’s most respected hospitality groups. Today, BRG Hospitality’s portfolio includes August, Luke, Domenica, Pizza Domenica, Shaya, Willa Jean, Tavi, Eunice (Houston), Delacroix Restaurant, and the soon-to-open Feliciana Bistrot and Paradise Rooftop Wine Bar in Covington, along with BRG Disaster Solutions, which provides large-scale feeding and logistics support during emergencies.
Mantilla also co-founded Our House Hospitality, a hotel food and beverage management division responsible for the revitalization of the historic Pontchartrain Hotel in New Orleans and the development of multiple concepts at the Thompson Hotel in Nashville. Deeply committed to civic engagement, Mantilla has served on numerous boards and commissions, including his current appointment by the Governor of Louisiana to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Commission, and ongoing service with the Louisiana Restaurant Education Foundation, among others.
“Octavio’s career reflects the very best of our industry—innovation, resilience, mentorship, and service,” said Stan Harris, President and CEO of the LRA. “His leadership comes at a meaningful moment as we honor 80 years of progress and look ahead to the future of hospitality in Louisiana.”
Joining Mantilla on the 2026 LRA Executive Committee are:
- Vice Chair: Emery Whalen, CEO of QED Hospitality, overseeing Jack Rose, Bayou Bar, Hot Tin, and the Silver Whistle Café in New Orleans
- Treasurer: Billy Clark, General Manager of Galatoire’s Restaurant and Galatoire’s 33 Bar & Steak, New Orleans
- At Large: Stephen Hightower, Director of Food & Beverage, University Club of Baton Rouge
- At Large: John Lalla, NATCO Foodservice
- At Large / Past Chair: Greg Reggio, Founder of Taste Buds Management and Zea Rotisserie & Bar
Together, these leaders represent a cross-section of Louisiana’s hospitality ecosystem—independent restaurants, fine dining, hotels, private clubs, and foodservice partners—each volunteering their time and expertise to strengthen the industry.
“For 80 years, the LRA’s longevity has been driven by dedicated leaders who believe in giving back to the industry that has given them so much,” Harris noted. “It is individuals like this Executive Committee—past and present—who ensure the LRA remains a trusted voice for restaurants and hospitality professionals across Louisiana.”
Throughout its 80th Anniversary year, the LRA will highlight milestones, industry innovations, and the people who have shaped Louisiana’s hospitality legacy—past, present, and future.
