About LRAEF Scholars
Since its inception in 2009, the LRA Education Foundation has awarded over $650,000 through its Scholarship Fund. To further educate ProStart® students, culinary/hospitality students, industry employees and educators, this financial support has created an annual class of LRAEF Scholars. These Scholars have chosen the culinary and/or hospitality fields as a career choice or wish to continue to work in the industry. With this financial support, Scholars have access to post- secondary education in the culinary and/or hospitality fields or special certificate programs for educators or industry professionals. The scholarships are awarded for one time financial assistance.
The LRAEF awards three types of scholarships each year. Preference is given to those students who hold the ProStart Certificate of Achievement. The LRAEF Scholar title is given to those who are pursuing a degree in culinary arts or hospitality. In addition, the LRAEF, in partnership with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, will award its annual Louisiana Seafood Scholarship. One individual will be awarded the LRAEF's most prestigious award, the Jim Funk Scholarship, which is named for the former LRA President & CEO who guided the creation of the LRAEF during his 30 years with the organization.

2023 LRAEF Jim Funk Scholar: Morgan BoquetThis scholarship was created in honor of the former LRA President & CEO who guided the creation of the LRAEF during his 30 years with the organization. As the 2023 LRAEF Jim Funk Scholar, the most prestigious award, Boquet is a fourth year LRAEF scholar, attending the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University, and is a ProStart Program graduate of Lakeshore High School in Mandeville.

2023 Louisiana Seafood Scholar: Zoe Foster
This scholarship was established through a generous gift from the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board, and is awarded to an individual who expresses an interest in cultivating, protecting and promoting Louisiana Seafood. Zoe Foster was named the 2023 Louisiana Seafood Scholar. Foster is a third year LRAEF scholarship recipient, attending the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University.
