Dear LRA Southwest Chapter Members,
Our area is rebounding, albeit slowly, from a slew of serious events during the last year—of course the COVID-19 pandemic, two hurricanes, Laura and Delta, pounded the southwest Louisiana coastline. And just shy of two months ago, an icy winter storm left many of us without water and power.
At every level of government, a message that is vitally important in moving us from a pandemic to an endemic is the importance of vaccinations. Over the last two weeks, the state's supply of vaccines has flipped, and there is now more supply than demand. The LRA is monitoring resurgences of COVID-19 spread across the state and nation. It’s no surprise that the Southwest region leads in the number of cases, given the influx of contractors in the area. Additionally, as citizens rebuild, they are staying in close quarters with relatives and friends. The #SleevesUpLA vaccination campaign info is available below if you feel to inclined to share it among those you influence.
Regarding our area's recovery, Mayor Nic Hunter has penned a note, and longtime friend of the industry, Kyle Edminston, President and CEO of the Lake Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau, shares his outlook on tourism.
These are the times that really try our patience, stamina and faith. Through it all, our restaurants have been the first to respond with hot meals and supplies for our first responders and our friends, family and neighbors.
LRA Southwest Chapter President
