We’re launching a series of health care webinars to answer your questions about insurance, how to keep costs in check and providing wellness programs for employees. We start Oct. 6 with a 30-minute primer on “What’s Driving Health Care Costs and What Employers Can Do About It.”
“Our members are telling us their insurance costs are going up 3 percent to 30 percent,” says Robin Goracke, director, health care policy, National Restaurant Association. “Some of those costs they can’t control. We want to help restaurant employers better understand the costs they can control, such as prescription drugs and utilization.”
For example, utilization refers the number of times someone receives health care treatment, whether from a primary care doctor, specialist or physician assistant. The kind of facility also can affect the cost: urgent care clinic, doctor’s office or emergency room. And where that person is treated can affect the kind of medicine or treatment prescribed, as well as what he or she pays.
