In this capacity, Casbarian will serve as the ambassador of Louisiana’s world-renowned restaurant industry. She will travel the state attending chapter meetings and philanthropic events throughout the year and foster the engagement of one of the state’s largest business trade associations.
Arnaud’s Restaurant opened in 1918 and was operated by Arnaud Cazenave. Casbarian’s father, the late Archie Casbarian, and his wife, Jane, acquired the restaurant in 1978. Their children, Katy Casbarian and Archie Casbarian, now continue this grand legacy with their mother. The family is the second set of proprietors the restaurant has ever known. Arnaud’s has been a member of the LRA since 1982.
Casbarian was elected to the LRA state board in 2005. She served as the Greater New Orleans Chapter President in 2008 and has chaired numerous State Board Committees. She was named the Greater New Orleans Chapter’s Restaurateur of the Year in 2012.
Casbarian grew up in her family’s restaurant and as children, she and her brother were a constant presence at Arnaud’s—doing homework, playing and enjoying family meals in the main dining room. It’s that familiarity with the restaurant and its staff that makes Casbarian fiercely committed to running Arnaud’s and staying true to the vision of her father as the restaurant nears a century old; the restaurant will celebrate 100 years in 2018.
Casbarian is a graduate of renowned Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, earning a degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management. She began her career in New York City in the restaurants of the famed Waldorf Astoria hotel.
“It is a great blessing to the LRA to have someone with Katy’s passion, experience and vision serve as our chair. The family legacy that she represents from Arnaud’s is a pillar of the French Quarter and acknowledged worldwide as one of the true Creole-focused restaurants in New Orleans. She dedicates so much of her time to ensure that the restaurant industry thrives in Louisiana, be it through advocacy or engagement with our members. Katy is a selfless leader and we look forward to her guiding the LRA this year,” said LRA President & CEO Stan Harris.
“I am truly honored and humbled by the opportunity to chair such a well-respected association,” said Casbarian. “This year will hopefully provide the opportunity to meet and engage with so many of our LRA members across the state and I consider it a privilege to further the restaurant industry’s position of importance in the culture and economy of our state.”
