Commissioner Hebert started the summer initiative in 2013. During the 2014 Summer Crackdown, agents conducted 6,598 compliance checks on businesses that sell and/or serve alcohol and tobacco products and issued nearly 900 citations for underage sales.
“Last year, around 14% of the businesses that ATC agents checked sold to our underage operatives,” explained Commissioner Hebert. “With an increase in our education initiative, our Agency is working to ensure that more businesses will do the right thing and not sell to minors," Hebert added.
During the next three months, Commissioner Hebert has ordered agents to increase the number of educational presentations conducted for businesses and organizations throughout the state. The Agency works to be proactive and educate children and adults about state alcohol and tobacco laws and the dangers of early alcohol and tobacco use.
The 2015 Summer Crackdown will begin this week and runs through August. For more information about scheduling an ATC agent to make an educational presentation to your group, visit ATC’s website at www.atc.la.gov.
