LRA EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO HOST 6TH ANNUAL PROSTART® LEADERSHIP COMPETITION

New Orleans, LA—The Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation (LRAEF) will host the 6th Annual ProStart® Leadership Competition, an “Iron Chef-like competition,” February 26 - 27, 2007 at the New Orleans Marriott, showcasing the culinary and academic talents of junior and senior ProStart® students from across the metropolitan area and the state. The competition features two primary components: the Gourmet Meal and the Knowledge Bowl. An Education and Business Expo with exhibits from ProStart® Sponsors and Post-Secondary Partners will be featured as well.
During the Culinary Competition, teams will demonstrate their creative abilities through the preparation of a three course meal consisting of: a soup, salad or appetizer; a protein such as meat, fish or fowl, vegetable and starch; and a cold or flambé dessert. Their performance during the hour-long competition will be observed and rated by judges from the foodservice industry and post-secondary educational institutions.
The mission of the ProStart® program and competition is to increase student awareness of careers in the restaurant/foodservice industry, and to provide the restaurant industry with a forum to present and recruit ProStart® students. Participating students complete a nationally endorsed, dynamic and comprehensive curriculum which encourages them to learn all aspects of operating and managing a restaurant or foodservice establishment, in school and in a structured hands-on worksite.
