LRA GREATER NEW ORLEANS CHAPTER NAMES RESTAURATEUR OF THE YEAR
New Orleans, LA—Joel Dondis, owner of Joel’s Grand Cuisine and La Petite Grocery in New Orleans, won the Restaurateur of the Year Award from the Louisiana Restaurant Association Greater New Orleans Chapter during the Chapter’s annual banquet at the Marriott on Canal Street. Restaurateur of the Year is the most prestigious award given by the Chapter to recognize outstanding contributions to the hospitality industry.
Dondis began serving classic French cuisine to his family and friends at the early age of 11. He graduated from St. Louis High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. His father Julian Dondis owns Greengate Garden Center in Lake Charles. Many years later after attending and graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, in New York, Dondis traveled Europe to expand his knowledge of the culinary arts, fine dining and perfect service. He worked at the Schloss Hotel and Restaurant Gargantua in Frankfurt, Germany. Upon his return to the U.S. Dondis worked for the Brennan family in their restaurant Mr. B's, followed by a three year stint at Emeril's, where he earned the responsibility and title of Sous Chef.
