LRA PRESIDENT/CEO TO BE HONORED BY NATIONAL RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION
New Orleans, LA -- The Louisiana Restaurant Association (LRA) is proud to announce its President/CEO Jim Funk will be honored by the National Restaurant Association (NRA) & the NRA Education Foundation (NRAEF), Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the 20th Annual Salute to Excellence Awards Gala and Banquet at the Hilton Chicago. Funk is the first state restaurant association executive to be inducted into the College of Diplomates.
Since 1981, Funk has been the Chief Executive Officer of the LRA and he established the Self Insurer’s Fund (LRA/SIF) for Workers’ Compensation in 1982. For 25 years, the LRA/SIF has a cumulative total of more than $75 million in dividends—more than any other workers’ compensation provider in the state. The fund insures 2,735 hospitality-related businesses in the state including restaurants, restaurant suppliers, hotels, casinos and bakeries. He was instrumental in founding the LRA Education Foundation (LRAEF), a tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 corporation established to promote the restaurant industry as a career choice, provide personal development and support state-approved foodservice programs.
Each year the NRAEF inducts outstanding members who actively strive to support and strengthen the advancement of professionalism and education within the industry, into its prestigious College of Diplomates. Established in 1974, the College of Diplomates includes an impressive list of more than 100 industry professionals. Five former honorees are from Louisiana and include Chef Paul Prudhomme `93, Emeril Lagasse `98, Ella Brennan `00, Ralph Brennan `05 and Chef John Folse `06.
